Coalescence of polymeric sessile drops on a partially wettable substrate

چکیده
Coalescence of sessile polymeric fluid drops on a partially wettable substrate exhibits transition from inertial to viscoelastic regime at concentration ratio $c/c^* \sim 1$. Our findings unveil that the temporal evolution growing bridge height follows power-law behaviour $t^b$, such coefficient $b$ continuously decreases 2/3 in ($c/c^*<1$) an asymptotic value 1/2 visco-elastic ($c/c^*>1$). To account for elasticity and characteristic time-scale regime, modified thin film equation under lubrication approximation has been proposed using linear Phan-Thien- Tanner constitutive equation. The droplet evaluated by solving one-dimensional thin-film marching explicit scheme. initial shapes are obtained re-sorting energy minimization. A good agreement between numerical experimental results is obtained.

Coalescence of spreading droplets on a wettable substrate.
We investigate experimentally and theoretically the coalescence dynamics of two spreading droplets on a highly wettable substrate. Upon contact, surface tension drives a rapid motion perpendicular to the line of centers that joins the drops and lowers the total surface area. We find that the width of the growing meniscus bridge between the two droplets exhibits power-law behavior, growing at ea...

Coalescence of liquid drops is critical in many phenomena such as emulsion stability, inkjet printing, and coating applications. For sessile drops on a solid surface, the coalescence process is more complicated than the coalescence of drops suspended in a fluid medium as a result of the coupling of the contact line motions to the fluid flow. In this paper, we use video microscopy to track the e...
متن کاملSymmetric and asymmetric coalescence of drops on a substrate.
The coalescence of viscous drops on a substrate is studied experimentally and theoretically. We consider cases where the drops can have different contact angles, leading to a very asymmetric coalescence process. Side view experiments reveal that the "bridge" connecting the drops evolves with self-similar dynamics, providing a new perspective on the coalescence of sessile drops. We show that the...
متن کاملSubstrate constraint modifies the Rayleigh spectrum of vibrating sessile drops.
In this work, we study the resonance behavior of mechanically oscillated, sessile water drops. By mechanically oscillating sessile drops vertically and within prescribed ranges of frequencies and amplitudes, a rich collection of resonance modes are observed and their dynamics subsequently investigated. We first present our method of identifying each mode uniquely, through association with spher...
